"Developing a Supporting Sentence"
How to develop
Supporting Sentence in Writing the Paragraph
1. Giving the details.
Your
readers want to know your reasons (supporting sentences) for holding an
opinion or feeling a certain way about an experience. The readers also need details
to better picture or understand what you mean.
Example :
a. TS: Antarctica is a dangerous and lonely place.
b. ST
(major) : It is the coldest and
driest continent on the planet.
c. ST (minor): It is far away from hospitals and
food supplies.
2. Giving the
fact or evidence
After the TS, present specific facts
that support that topic. Explain how each fact logically supports the claim or
topic. Remain focused and specific, relating only information relevant to your
TS.
Example :
a. TS: High fructose corn the syrup is bad for your health.
b. ST (major): It has been linked to the obesity
epidemic, mostly because of its use in soft drinks.
c. ST (minor): Iis also digested by your body more
quickly than natural sugars and puts a tremendous strain on your liver.
